Prepare for Fireworks!

The Fourth of July is extra special in the Village when Macy’s chooses to launch their massively impressive fireworks spectacular from barges in the Hudson River rather than the East River. (Don't ask our friends in Brooklyn and Queens what they think though.) Wherever you live, be sure to come down to the Village to navigate towards the prime viewing spots this year.

The 26 minute long firework spectacular will be accompanied by a patriotic medley including appropriate tunes like Ray Charles' "America the Beautiful," Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the U.S.A.", Madonna's "Holiday," Whitney Houston's "One Moment in Time," and more.

Pop princess of the moment Katy Perry and country star Kenny Chesney will headline the official Macy’s show. Ms. Perry will definitely fit right into the show with her aptly named chart-topping hit.

The fireworks start booming around 9:20pm, and will be launched from barges along the river spanning from 20th St. to 59th St. Different access points will allow thousands to line 11th and 12th Avenues, which are the prime viewing spots for the show.

Although the fireworks don’t start until night falls, grabbing a spot by 5pm would be smart. Bring a cooler, food, friends, and things to pass the time as you watch the west side streets evolve into huge block parties.

Be advised that potentially awesome viewing spots like the High Line and Hudson River Park close early in order to protect the plants from tens of thousands of trampling revelers.

Having a July 4th party of your own? Stock up on your Americana décor and patriotic accessories at Village Party Store and provide for your party guests by grabbing your groceries in the Village.
