Creativity Cubed - East Village Faces, Places & Traces
Creativity Cubed; Faces, Places and Traces – East Village returns for one final day in 2017 to chronicle the last fifty years of East Village history and the “Cube” with creativity!
East Village street artist and icon Jim Power, the "Mosaic Man" will be joining Creativity Cubed to lead mosaic workshops for all ages! Join the "Mosaic Man" to make your own unique piece of mosaic art, and hear him share his story about his creation of the legendary Mosaic Trail, and the influences and events behind the designs of his work. He'll also be leading tours of the seven Astor Place mosaic poles!
You'll also be able to express your own personal history and experiences of the East Village at our FREE “Cube Collage-a-thons” workshops created by Processional Arts Workshop. Create your own personal spinning mini-cube and collage it with iconic East Village images from the past 50 years – from storefronts to album covers, famous faces to places and iconic graffiti to community gardens.
Artist Storm Ritter of Storm Ritter Studio will lead the “crowd painting” of a huge East Village community mural! Budding artists will have the opportunity to grab a paintbrush and paint their own East Village Faces, Places, and Traces onto the mural, which will evolve over six hours. Patterns and textures from the mural produced at Creativity Cubed May 19 have since inspired a new fashion line by Storm Ritter!
Write and share your East Village and Astor Place stories with the hugely popular The Strangers Project who will be collecting personal stories, and displaying hundreds of fascinating and moving stories on specially created “story cubes”.
