The Village Alliance strives to bring public art and cultural experiences to our plazas. Our initiatives transform Greenwich Village’s public spaces into vibrant hubs of creativity, community, and connection year-round.
WINTER 2025: BIG RUMI ON RUTH WITTENBERG TRIANGLE
The Village Alliance is thrilled to reintroduce public art to Ruth Wittenberg Triangle through a collaboration with the Institute of Arab and Islamic Art. Big Rumi, a sculpture by Ghada Amer, is the artist's first public art installation in the U.S.
FALL 2024: INAUGURAL Older Adult Art Showcase ON ASTOR PLACE
Launched in August 2024, our partnership with Greenwich House’s Older Adult Network celebrates the creativity of senior artists. Selected works from Greenwich House members wrapped the utility boxes at Astor Place and reflected diverse perspectives and life experiences. This program honors the contributions of older adults while adding beauty to the streetscape.
FALL 2025: OLDER ADULT ART SHOWCASE ON ASTOR PLACE
The collaboration between Greenwich House and the Village Alliance beautifies infrastructure in the plaza while celebrating the contributions of older adults to local culture. The installation is the culmination of the Village Alliance’s second annual art competition for older adults.
SUMMER 2025: INAUGURAL Student Art Competition ON ASTOR PLACE
Launched in May 2025, our annual competition for students and alumni of Manhattan-based higher-education art programs gives up-and-coming talent an opportunity to share their work on our utility boxes in an iconic public space.
SPRING 2025: Poetry in the Plaza ON RUTH WITTENBERG TRIANGLE
We’re thrilled to announce a special collaboration with the Poetry Society of America, bringing poetry to life in our plazas. This exciting project celebrates the literary arts and further enriches the cultural vibrancy of Greenwich Village.
