Art in the Plazas
The Village Alliance strives to bring public art and cultural experiences to our plazas. Our initiatives transform Greenwich Village’s public spaces into vibrant hubs of creativity, community, and connection year-round.
FALL: Older Adult Art Showcase
Launched in August 2024, our partnership with Greenwich House’s Older Adult Network celebrates the creativity of senior artists. Each fall, selected works from Greenwich House members will wrap the utility boxes at Astor Place and reflect diverse perspectives and life experiences. This program honors the contributions of older adults while adding beauty to the streetscape.
SUMMER: Student Art Competition
Launched in May 2025, our annual competition for students and alumni of Manhattan-based higher-education art programs gives up-and-coming talent an opportunity to share their work on our utility boxes in an iconic public space.
SPRING: Poetry in the Plaza
We’re thrilled to announce a special collaboration with the Poetry Society of America, bringing poetry to life in our plazas. This exciting project will celebrate the literary arts and further enrich the cultural vibrancy of Greenwich Village.
