Who we are

The Village Alliance is the Business Improvement District (BID) for a vibrant stretch of Greenwich Village, providing services to 8th Street, University Place, Astor Place, and key segments of St. Marks Place and 6th Avenue.

Our mission is to create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment that supports small businesses and strengthens the commercial heart of the neighborhood.

We are funded by an assessment on commercial property owners, and our work is focused on enhancing the daily experience for those who live, work, shop, and visit here. While we coordinate closely with City agencies, our services are supplemental—designed to augment, not replace, municipal resources.

We provide:

  • Sidewalk cleaning, graffiti removal, and upkeep of public amenities

  • Public safety ambassadors who build relationships with local businesses and assist on the street

  • Greening and beautification projects, coordinated with property owners

  • Marketing, events, and promotions that bring energy and visibility to neighborhood storefronts
