The Village Alliance contracts a dedicated clean team that works 7 days a week to maintain clean and welcoming streets. This team sweeps sidewalks, removes stickers and graffiti, and shovels snow at high-traffic intersections, bus stops, and around hydrants.

Through a contracted service, Public Safety Ambassadors coordinate with the NYPD and report issues to 311 to help address public safety concerns throughout the district. They also check in with businesses as part of our Public Safety Partnership Program, fostering stronger connections and a safer community.

The Village Alliance is dedicated to supporting local businesses and fostering a thriving retail environment. We actively advertise retail opportunities to maintain a low vacancy rate and enhance neighborhood safety. To drive customer traffic, we offer initiatives like the Village Access Program, which highlights special deals and promotions, and provide businesses with opportunities to market and sample their products at our districtwide events. Through these efforts, we connect businesses with the community and promote sustainable success.

We invest in the upkeep and enhancement of the district’s streetscape by maintaining and landscaping DOT planters and upgrading and caring for street trees. These efforts create a greener, more inviting environment.

The Village Alliance serves as the nonprofit Plaza Partner under contract with the NYC Department of Transportation to maintain the Astor Place Plazas and Ruth Wittenberg Triangle. To keep these public spaces vibrant and welcoming, we invest in pest abatement, cleaning, power washing, and landscaping services. Additionally, we provide moveable tables, chairs, and umbrellas daily for public use, ensuring these spaces remain accessible and enjoyable for all.

The Village Alliance brings the neighborhood to life through dynamic programming and engaging events that activate public spaces and foster meaningful community connections. Our events highlight the unique charm of Greenwich Village while showcasing the thriving independent small retailers that make the district special. From seasonal celebrations to districtwide initiatives, our programming creates opportunities for businesses, neighbors, and visitors to connect and celebrate the vibrant culture of the Village.
